Our team member, Eugene Gyasi Agyemang, recently had the opportunity to present at the African Materials Research Society’s international conference in Kigali, Rwanda. He delivered an engaging oral presentation on his research, which explores the theory and experiments behind polymer-enhanced nanopore sensing, a collaboration with the groups of Dr Paolo Actis | School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering | University of Leeds and Prof. Dr. Kristina Tschulik | Fakultät für Chemie und Biochemie. The event also offered Eugene the opportunity to engage with Nobel laureates Professors Frances Arnold and Konstantin Novoselov and also, connect with numerous world-class African researchers and leading scientists from diverse nations in a truly global setting. This opportunity was made possible through funding from the JUAMI – Joint Undertaking for an African Materials Institute program, a collaborative effort supported by the US National Science Foundation, Northwestern University’s McCormick College of Engineering Global Initiatives Program (Global Initiatives | Northwestern Engineering), and the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy (Home | ICTP). The JUAMI program fosters global partnerships in materials research between Africa, the United States, and other nations.
