The Edwards Group’s collaboration with the Actis Group at the University of Leeds has led to the publication of an article in ACS Nano. The work details how a minor modification to a nanopore sensing experiment (the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG) to the bath solution) results in dramatic enhancement in the detection of RNA (>6x improvement). Detailed experiments comparing the results with different cations and anions show that the cation-PEG interaction plays an important role in this enhancement.
